Business Registration Number (BRN)

The identifier on every company record here — the company identifier used in the Government's open data, eight digits. Company page URLs begin with this number.

Local company

A company incorporated in Hong Kong under the Companies Ordinance. Most of the register data here is local companies.

Registered non-Hong Kong company

A company incorporated outside Hong Kong that has registered with the Hong Kong Companies Registry. It sits on a separate register, included here, though at lower coverage — the Government's lookup only accepts an exact number, so it cannot be fully retrieved.

Registered office address

The statutory address a company declares on the register. It is not necessarily where the business operates. We show it exactly as filed, without translation or correction.

Nominee-address flag

A field we derive — not government data. When one address appears across a large number of company records, we flag it. It usually means a company secretary or registered agent's service address rather than the company's own office.

18 districts

Hong Kong's eighteen administrative districts. We infer the district from the registered address, at roughly 90% accuracy; a small share cannot be classified. This is our classification, not a register field.

Incorporation date

The date the company was incorporated per the register. For registered non-Hong Kong companies, it is the date of registration in Hong Kong.

Licensed restaurant

A premises holding a food business licence issued by the Food & Environmental Hygiene Department, covering general and light refreshment restaurants.

Liquor licence

A licence issued by the Liquor Licensing Board permitting liquor sales at a premises, published via FEHD.

First-seen month

A field we derive. It is the month a licence number first appears in the Government's published list, reconstructed from official archive snapshots back to January 2023. It approximates when a licence was granted — it is not the official issue date.

Open data

Data the Government publishes under terms permitting reuse, including commercial reuse, released via DATA.GOV.HK. Everything on this site comes through that channel.
